Sarkisian talks expansion, USC on 710 ESPN Seattle

UW coach Steve Sarkisian was a guest on 710 ESPN Seattle on the Brock (Huard) and Salk Show, talking mostly about expansion, with a couple of other topics thrown in.

There was nothing on the UW football team, so no news there.

And Sarkisian, as you might expect --- and as only makes sense --- wasn't real outspoken when asked about the possibility of Pac-10 expansion or the USC report.

As Sarkisian noted, expansion is out of the hands of coaches, anyway, and they all have to do adjust to whatever happens, or doesn't happen.

Sarkisian said that he likes the Pac-10 the way it is, the fact that the round-robin schedule allows for a "true champion'' calling that "special.''

But he also said he's fine with it if the Pac-10 expands.

"I know in the end but will be great, not only for the Pac-10, but for the University of Washington,'' he said.

He said it "obvioiusly has some huge ramifications'' for UW if the conference expands and that he thinks it could add some exciting matchups to play teams like Texas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State in "games that would really matter.''

Asked how it might impact recruiting, it said it could open some doors to Texas and the Midwest, but that "goes both ways'' and would also mean that "our door (in the Pacific Northwest) is kind of getting opened, as well, where those guys can come up and recruit our guys.''

Sarkisian was also asked (by Huard) about the pending release of the report on infractions at USC (Sarkisian and a few other current UW staffers obviously worked at USC during the time being investigated). Sarkisian said that "I really don't know'' when it will be released and that "we're just like everybody else to some degree. We are fans, just like everyone else, because we don't know. We'll watch it. I don't know how much of an effect it will have directly on us, but we're watching it and anxious to see what happens.''
