The voice on the other end of the phone crackled ... "I'm taking a little catnap. I went out last night, so I'm paying for it, but I had to," said Storm C Ashley Robinson. A Dallas native, the NBA All-Star game is in her backyard and Robinson has been working since Wednesday to promote the men and women's pro leagues ... She was originally going to blog for us each night, but Robinson has been jammed with events -- commuting about 20-minutes from her home in Grand Prairie. Then there are the
Mike Sweeney has signed a minor league deal with the Mariners and will be invited to spring training. Was just discussing this with Larry Stone over lunch yesterday, wondering why Sweeney had not been invited back. He had a very strong finish to last season once his back woes were worked out ... The Mariners are not likely to add Sweeney to their major league roster by Opening Day, given their stated desire to have players who can still play a position. Ken Griffey Jr. is already there as
Friend of the blog and all-around content distributor Tim Dierkes ... of MLB Trade Rumors emailed me the other day. Dierkes is putting together a list of players on all teams who are out of minor league options and wanted to know who the Seattle candidates were. Should be an interesting read, given how there are always some last minute waiver claims made on these guys by the end of spring training. The way it works is, when a guy is out of options, you have to "outright" him to the minors by

Winter hasn’t exactly broken our spirits this year. We’d like to complain, but we just can’t. That doesn’t mean we can’t pine for summer, though, what with its warm weather and sunny days that remind us that color really does exist in nature, barbecues, outdoor drinks, lake time, music festivals…what were we saying? Oh right. It looks like we have another reason to be psyched for summer - GreenNote, an acoustic music festival and green expo taking place at Myrtle Edwards Park on

Lots of disappointment in the local blogosphere today over the news that the Mariners will be getting Class A outfielder Yohermyn Chavez , along with reliever Brandon League , in that Brandon Morrow trade ... My first reaction was that Chavez's inclusion makes the deal a whole lot less sexy than it sounded this morning when other names were being bandied about ... My second reaction is -- stop doing it ... Stop overvaluing what Seattle had to trade ... We see this done locally all the time.
